The Hill-Side Blue Jeans
Today we're writing to introduce The Hill-Side's first offering of blue jeans -- some of the most painstakingly crafted, tastefully detailed, and well-priced jeans we've ever come across. The Hill-Side Blue Jeans are available in-store and online now, priced at $198.00.

The Hill-Side Blue Jeans are hand made in "denim mecca" Okayama, Japan at a very small, highly regarded factory. They're cut from a custom-developed 14.5oz "double-slub," natural indigo selvedge denim, which is expertly woven on extra narrow shuttle looms at a tiny, under-the-radar denim mill in the same town as the factory.

The custom "double-slub" denim features moderate slub yarns in both the warp and the weft, resulting in a unique but subtle overall texture. The denim is kept loomstate -- completely unsanforized and untreated -- throughout production, then the finished jeans are washed once in order to eliminate shrinkage and make them ready to wear right away. The warp yarns are diligently rope-dyed 16 times in natural indigo, which results in a beautiful, luminous, and rich shade of indigo that will break in beautifully over time.

The Hill-Side Blue Jeans

The Hill-Side Blue Jeans are cut in a perfect slim-straight fit, and feature discreet branding and deliberately generic trims inspired by WWII-era jeans, which had minimal decoration and stripped-down details in order to comply with wartime rationing. The leather patch on the back waistband is unmarked, with a small twill tape tab peeking out from underneath -- a subtle nod to the signature US-woven cotton twill tape labels that appear on all of The Hill-Side's products.

A host of carefully planned and executed details include black painted donut buttons, a "laurel-leaf" military waist button, un-branded copper rivets, selvedge coin pocket without rivets, back pockets attached using one continuous stitch, and The Hill-Side's twill-tape label hidden inside the right back pocket (a reference to the union labor labels that used to be sewn into the back pocket of work trousers, so that every time a union member reached for his wallet he would be reminded to pay his dues!).

The Hill-Side Blue Jeans

The Hill-Side Blue Jeans are available with two pocket bag options, which is also a reference to the fact that rationed WWII jeans often used any random fabric that was available for the pocket bags. One version (JE1-280A) features mil-spec olive drab herringbone pocket bags, and the other (JE1-280B) features mismatched pocket bags made from The Hill-Side's Spring 2015 fabrics.
